Lost History

LOST History
By: Tiffany Davis

You may have read other articles and blogs about e-cigs and their origins but one fact is rarely mentioned. This fact is that in 1927, J. Robinson filed the first Electric Vaporizer. Just imagine if the invention took off in the early 1900’s, the world, as we know it would be much different. Below is the history before the year 2000.

1927

Joseph Robinson filed a patent for the first “Electric Vaporizer” in 1927. Here’s an excerpt from the original document:
“My invention relates to vaporizing devices for holding medicinal compounds which are electrically heated to produce vapors for inhalation, and to provide a device for individual use which may be freely handled without any possibility of being burned.” – Joseph Robinson, May 3, 1927, New York

1930

In 1930, Robinson’s patent was approved and published by the USPTO.

While this device wasn’t invented as a tobacco alternative, its design is very similar to the more modern e cigs. We think Mr. Robinson deserves some credit!

1963

In 1963, Herbert A. Gilbert’s patent for a “smokeless non-tobacco cigarette” was filed in Pennsylvania

“The present invention relates to a smokeless non-tobacco cigarette to provide a safe and harmless means for smoking by replacing burning tobacco with heated, moist, flavored air. Another object is to provide an article of manufacture resembling a cigarette by which air may be drawn through a porous substance of a cartridge which has been moistened with a chemically harmless flavoring preparation, heated by a suitable heating element. A further object is to suitably raise the temperature of the inhalant mixture, so that it may approximate that of cigarette smoke. A further object is to insulate the heat source so that the ‘cigarette’ may be held in the fingers without discomfort to the user’s hand.”

1965
, Gilbert’s patent was officially issued by the USPTO

Gilbert’s invention was even featured in the December 1965 issue of Popular Mechanics
Like modern-day ecigarettes, these first two inventions combined heat, flavored liquid, smoke-like vapor, and a cigarette-like gadget.

Between 1965 and 2000, there were several more patents filed for electronic cigarette-esque products, but none really took off until Hon Lik had a dream in 2000…

Should you be Worried?

Should You Be Worried?

This is just a public reminder to be safe this cold and flu season from the friendly vapor consultants at Flavor Vapor.

All who work with the public and a nightmare for parents, cold and flu season is in full swing. This season however hasn’t started out the same as every other year. This year another disease is hitting close to home and reminding everyone to be caution. Ebola has people scared but do you really need to worry about a disease that has killed thousands?

The USA is very cautious when it comes to a pending out break of an infectious disease. So, in reality I wouldn’t worry about an Ebola outbreak in the USA. Now, if you plan to travel this season I would take extra precaution if you especially if you are in contact with the elderly, children, or have a compromised immune system. Any common cold or flu is easy to catch because it can be airborne. Ebola, is only spread through close contact or bodily fluids. Direct contact means that body fluids (blood, saliva, mucus, vomit, urine, or feces) from an infected person (alive or dead) have touched someone’s eyes, nose, or mouth or an open cut, wound, or abrasion.

What is the difference between a cold and the flu?
The flu and the common cold are both respiratory illnesses but they are caused by different viruses. Because these two types of illnesses have similar flu-like symptoms, it can be difficult to tell the difference between them based on symptoms alone. In general, the flu is worse than the common cold, and symptoms such as fever, body aches, extreme tiredness, and dry cough are more common and intense. Colds are usually milder than the flu. People with colds are more likely to have a runny or stuffy nose. Colds generally do not result in serious health problems, such as pneumonia, bacterial infections, or hospitalizations.
How can you tell the difference between a cold and the flu?
Because colds and flu share many symptoms, it can be difficult (or even impossible) to tell the difference between them based on symptoms alone. Special tests that usually must be done within the first few days of illness can be carried out, when needed to tell if a person has the flu.
What are the symptoms of the flu versus the symptoms of a cold?
In general, the flu is worse than the common cold, and symptoms such as fever, body aches, extreme tiredness, and dry cough are more common and intense. Colds are usually milder than the flu. People with colds are more likely to have a runny or stuffy nose. Colds generally do not result in serious health problems, such as pneumonia, bacterial infections, or hospitalizations.

So, this season practice caution when touching doorknobs and other high traffic areas. Here is some easy precautions:

-Wash your hands for 20 seconds with hot water
-Use your elbow or other body part to open doors when possible instead of your hands.
-Sanitize items you use everyday like your phone with disinfected wipes.
-Avoid touching your face.
-Stay away from anyone who appears sick.
-Disinfect your shopping cart at the store.
-Carry disinfecting wipes with you.
-Carry hand-sanitizing gel.
-Use a medical nose and mouth mask if traveling in a highly dense area.
-Sneeze into your elbow instead of your hands to prevent contact with your hands and potential spread of germs.

These are just a few ideas to stay healthy this cold and flu season. There are also herbal supplements that have been proven to provide support to our immune systems but remember to talk with your doctor before starting any new medication.

Misconstrued Mary Jane Name

Misconstrued Mary Jane Name
By Tiffany Davis

This day and age there has been a lot of controversy about is a personal vaporizers and marijuana. I have had people and even my doctor ask me about this misconstrued idea that personal vaporizers are just for marijuana.

We live in Bible Belt of the USA and this means that some things like marijuana are often frowned upon. There have been numerous petitions trying to get “Medical Marijuana” legalized since Colorado legalized the sale of marijuana to the public.

Lets just get a few things straight for the recorded.
1.     People who vape are not “pot heads”.
2.     There are specialty personal vaporizers made just for marijuana and other herbs.
3.     Marijuana is not legal in most states.
4.     Don’t try to convert your personal vaporizer. It’s not safe. It doesn’t work most of the time.
5.     Flavor Vapor and all associating stores to not sell and devices or liquids that contain marijuana or other herbs.

I know this is not a long blog today but, you can say you read and maybe learned something new. This week has been all about safety and educating everyone about the ever changing personal vaporizer world. We hope you enjoy and find us on Facebook to find more great news!
