Changing Times

Changing Times

Walking around I have noticed more and more people using their personal vaping devices outside stores and even stealth vaping while grocery shopping. It made me start thinking this morning how advanced and popular that vaping has become in just a few short years.

If you think about the scenario is funny because, a few years ago nobody knew about personal vaping devices. Everyone seemed to be smoking traditional cigarettes including me and many of the people I called friends. It wasn’t unusual to see my classmates hiding behind building off campus smoking just to get their fix. I did eventually quit smoking and did re-lapsed so many times like so many other people when they are in stressful situations.

Since, I quit smoking traditional cigarettes I can’t stand the smell of smoke. It bothers me to the point that I couldn’t’ ride in a friend’s car if it smelled like smoke, it would make me literally sick. I have noticed lately that I haven’t been dodging smoke clouds when I am running errands around town. My friend’s car doesn’t even smell like smoke anymore since she switched to vaping. I really haven’t thought about it until today how this small nuance hasn’t been a nuance lately because more people are switching to vaping. I don’t know about you but this small fact makes me smile.

Now, that I have become a mother I am especially glad that my son doesn’t have to be exposed to cigarette smoke like my sister and I was growing up with a dad that smoked like a chimneystack. I know a lot of people don’t think about the effects on kids being exposed to cigarette smoke growing up but for me it has created a condition called asthma. I am lucky that my asthma isn’t bad but today fewer children will be exposed to the detrimental effects of cigarette smoke. There is still no concrete evidence about personal vaping deceives and their effects on human health but, I do believe in “harm reduction”.

The number of people smoking traditional cigarettes has dropped dramatically since the introduction of vaping devices. The FDA has started the process to try to regulate personal vaping devices. We still need to come together as a community and let our voices be heard. We only have until August 9th 2014 to make our voices heard to the FDA. The commentary period was extended once I feel like it will not happen again so this maybe your last chance.
Thank you for taking time out of your day to read our blog. Please, get involved with a CASAA. They have the right vision for the vaping world and our (the consumers) best interest at heart.
